IANDS Stellar Speakers Series presents… Bringing Death to Life (leaving fear behind)

Dr. Mary Helen Hensley will give a detailed account of her NDE and its subsequent impact on her life as a healer. You will feel what it was like for her to be self-aware to the point of time seeming to stand still while deciding to exit the body, then observing from above, as her vehicle was hit broad side. In the current public-magnified focus on death due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mary Helen’s message is the absolute anecdote for the fear-based response that this crisis produces in a vast number of people. Bringing Death To Life with Dr. Mary Helen Hensley

Mary Helen will give a detailed account of her NDE and its subsequent impact on her life as a healer. You will feel what it was like for her to be self-aware to the point of time seeming to stand still while deciding to exit the body, then observing from above, as her vehicle was t-boned in an intersection by a driver running a red-light at a speed estimated to be over 75 mph.

In the current public-magnified focus on death due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mary Helen’s message is the absolute anecdote for the fear-based response that this crisis produces in a vast number of people. Even beyond this calming perspective communicated by Mary’s experience is an even greater awareness that “all situations are working out fine”; as they are intended to contribute to a heightened awareness of the truth that personal consciousness, that is a complete awareness of self, continues. The passage called “death” is thus illuminated as another opportunity to realize the reality of “fear” is the only adversary and it is totally unnecessary, even related to human death.

Especially related to fears raised by most religions and other human dictums of right and wrong, there is a positive message within Mary Helen’s narrative that addresses how “everyone makes it”. This may be the message that will do the most to calm unnecessary uneasiness about living life fully with whatever time we are given.

Each of these subjects will be woven together in a delightfully humorous yet informative presentation, allowing each listener to empower themselves with the knowledge that we already are that which we seek.

Biography

Dr. Mary Helen Hensley has been psychically aware from childhood and shares how she found her life’s purpose by the outcome from having her near-death experience.  In her NDE, she meets her spiritual guardians and she describes how her deceased grandfather guided her to become a chiropractor when she had no significant awareness of that profession.

Now having been licensed and practicing the true course of a healer for nearly two decades, she shares numerous anecdotes for the real spiritual purpose of her “hands-on” healing for her clients.

Social Worker Transformed by Hospice Client Experiences

A hospice clinical social worker, Scott Janssen has worked over 3 decades with terminally ill patients. A self-proclaimed materialist, Scott would dismiss NDEs and the like as attributable to drugs and mental illness. As he witnessed or heard of hundreds of transpersonal experiences of ordinary people approaching the mystery of death, his viewpoint and life was transformed. Scott is a prolific writer about hospice care and life lessons from the dying. He will share captivating stories and personal reflections from being with people navigating the end of life and how that opened his mind and heart. Wed. Jan 13, 2021 at 7 pm CST.

Scott Janssen, MA, MSW, LCSW – will share transformative stories from the forefront of hospice social work.

Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00 pm CST (5 PST, 6 MST, 8 EST)
Sponsored by Dallas/Ft Worth Friends of IANDS,
Co-leaders:  Jan Holden, Ed.D. and Pete Quortrup

Scott is a clinical social worker with the University of North Carolina Hospice in Pittsboro, just west of Raleigh and has worked with terminally ill patients and their families for over 28 years. During that time he has witnessed or heard reports of hundreds of transpersonal experiences as ordinary people have approached the mystery of death. These phenomena take many forms, such as near-death and out-of-body experiences, deathbed visions and synchronicities, messages delivered in dreams or hypnogogic states, strange animal behavior coinciding with death, and after death communications.

He has served as an editorial adviser for Social Work Today and written over 80 articles for professional and literary magazines as well as scholarly journals. His novel Light Keepers is a metaphysical adventure about connecting with the transpersonal realm and learning to choose love over fear. His book Standing at Lemhi Pass: Archetypal Stories for the End of Life and Other Challenging Times explores the use of therapeutic storytelling with hospice patients and their loved ones.

His articles and commentaries on transpersonal end of life phenomena have appeared in publications such as the Journal of Near-Death Studies, Social Work Today, KevinMD and the American Journal of Nursing.

In addition to end-of-life care, he is trained in working with patients struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. He is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s Trauma Informed Work Group and has spoken nationally about psychological care for terminally ill combat veterans and building trauma informed hospice teams.

When he started his career as a hospice social worker Scott was a self-proclaimed materialist, quick to dismiss non-ordinary experiences like NDEs as meaningless phenomena originating in biological, pharmacological or psychiatric causes. His patients have transformed his understanding and his life.

At our meeting, Scott will share captivating stories and personal reflections from decades working with people navigating the end of life as well as the ways this has opened his mind and his heart.

About Scott’s books:

Light Keepers (13.99 on Amazon) takes place within the threshold space between the seen and unseen worlds. Set in the desperate aftermath of the Civil War, it is a work of adventurous and visionary fiction which explores the question of how we may move toward love rather than fear in a world that often seems harsh and unsparing.

Standing at Lemhi Pass (12.99 on Amazon), a phrase taken from a pivotal moment during Lewis and Clark’s early exploration of the American West, borrows lively stories from American history and applies them to times we are facing loss, grief or any one of life’s profound challenges.

Christian Theme NDE/STE Discussion Group

Individuals often report having a being they identify as Jesus in their near-death or related spiritual experiences. This group is intended to provide a safe, validating opportunity to share individual experiences. This is not a forum to debate or deny another person’s experiences. All are welcome for the mission of loving and respecting individual experiences and differences of interpretation from religious themed experiences.

Title: A sharing group for those in, or from, a Christian community who have had, or are interested in, near-death or similar experiences.

Purpose: To provide a safe environment for those in, or from, such a community to hear and share these extraordinary experiences.

Are you a Christian who wonders how or if your NDE or other Spiritually Transformative Experience aligns with your faith? Are you struggling to integrate your experience and your religion? Come explore these questions with others having similar concerns. We will share our experiences and struggles and joys and dreams. We come from many different Christian traditions and will therefore hold a variety of views, so we commit to respecting all perspectives and seeing Christ in each other. This is a safe place of non-judgment. There is also no proselytizing. With open hearts we can discern the movement of the Holy Spirit among and within us. While this Sharing Session contains Christian content, it is open to all who feel called to join us.

About the facilitator

The Rev. Stephanie Chase Bradbury has been an Episcopal Priest for 25 years and has professionally counseled many people who’ve had NDE’s and STE’s. She herself has had a number of Spiritually Transformative Experiences beginning at age 6. Stephanie is drawn to the bright overlap between matter and spirit, and how life in this reality is intertwined with the transcendent. She feels called to act as a translator to a world that is often blind to the astonishing wonder of All That Is, and help facilitate the processing of those who have been touched by the extraordinary. Stephanie has led retreats, spoken at Boston IANDS gatherings, and been interviewed for the Leap from Within podcast. While grounded in the Christian tradition, Stephanie welcomes insight both from within organized religions and beyond. You can learn more at Grannypriest.com.

Dr. Christina Rawls grew up knowing she was different, from having her own language as a child to a variety of supernatural experiences. Having come close to death at least six times, she documented these experiences in various ways over time, including in her master’s thesis on both physics and philosophy in 2004. At the age of 44 Chris is currently teaching philosophy full-time at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. In tonight’s talk, Chris will discuss her interest, research and experiences in metaphysics while sharing some of her photographs of orbs, a phenomena she noticed and began documenting in 2011.

Chris’s childhood metaphysical experiences were multiple. From precognition to astral-projection, evidential mediumship and more, her family witnessed and eventually concluded that Chris had abilities and experiences they couldn’t name. Though some attribute these episodes to family trauma, stress, anxiety and related mental health causes, they have persisted into adulthood and have been witnessed by multiple others, encouraging Chris to seek further understanding.

Today, with a doctorate in philosophy Chris is ready to begin discussing her experiences publicly, hoping thereby to continue taking philosophy to task while encouraging other academics to bring these topics to the table as legitimate areas of concern. Even now, her record of super-normal experiences, as NDE researcher Dean Radin would call them, continues to grow. Inspired by IANDS’s and others’ long history of scientific research on related phenomena, and encouraged by the work of evidential medium Suzanne Giesemann and journalist Annie Jacobson among many, Chris hopes to find a publisher, get tested scientifically, and eventually teach openly on such topics in academia. The journey begins tonight.

“Conflict and Suffering as Instruments of Awakening”
with Rev. David Maginley, MDiv, CSCP
Saturday, November 21, 10 am PST (1 pm EST, 2 pm AST)

As a near-death experiencer, 4X cancer survivor, author and hospital chaplain Rev. David Maginley, explores the soul’s homework through the wisdom of those who have stepped across the edge of mortality. In these chaotic times, understanding how conflict and suffering challenge ego self-preservation has never been more important. Engaging this wisely accelerates our awareness that we all emanate from Love. Our differences need not divide us!

The ego is such a convincing garment of identity! And nothing threatens it life conflict and suffering. How easily we believe everything we think. How often we are controlled by everything we feel. Yet those who’ve had a NDE know that ego identity is a necessary illusion, an aspect of the human experience. Their temporary transformation does not lead to enlightenment! But it does leave the indelible signature of the sacred upon our psyche.

David has been with hundreds as they’ve died, and will share insights on ego identity, how it fuels the present crisis, and the centrality of forgiveness and reconciliation in coming home to ourselves. One of the most difficult and central aspects of this is understanding the way conflict and suffering deconstruct ego identity in the reverse order that it was formed. And ego does not enjoy the process! Instinctive defence mechanisms kick in, and add fuel to the fire. This replays old injuries, triggering regret, shame, and frustration. What can we do?

David will explore concrete, simple strategies to restore connection and community, grounded in the wisdom of near-death experiences. We are all wired with this. Awakening it is the homework of the soul, now more than ever.

Rev. David Maginley is an interfaith spiritual counselor at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and award-winning author of Beyond Surviving: Cancer and Your Spiritual Journey. David has also survived cancer four times, which resulted in a profound near-death experience and explorations in the nature of consciousness and the connection of body, mind and spirit. He knows what it’s like to have cancer from both sides of the hospital bed, and has a sense of this life from both sides of the veil.

David is ordained with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, a specialist with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, member of Canadian Association for Psychosocial Oncology, the International Association for Near-Death Studies, and is featured in the documentaries Here Right Now and When You Die.

He has presented internationally on the most difficult topics: suffering and meaning, grief and hope, death and dying and our connection to God through love.

Portland Oregon IANDS Guest Speaker Event

“I was shown a new positive future for humanity has now been realized by events on earth as observed by the Messengers in my latest NDE earlier this month!” — Rabbi Stephen Robbins, Psy. D., D.D. Join us as Rabbi Robbins shares the latest messages from his eighth NDE… a bright outlook exists for humanity as seen from the spiritual dimension that he visited. Hear his experience on Saturday, November 21, 1:30 pm PST (4:30 pm EST)

I was shown a new positive future for humanity has now been realized by events on earth as observed by the Messengers in my latest NDE earlier this month!

with Rabbi Stephen Robbins, Psy. D., D.D.

Rabbi Robbins has had eight near-death experiences, the most recent being this month, November, 2020. Rabbi is eager to share the positive messages from this latest experience. The capstone message is that “humanity has turned the corner and will continue to realize even more that ‘we are all dependent on each other’ resulting in less avarice between competing ideologies and more agreement to co-exist for healing the welfare of ourselves and the planet!

Rabbi Robbins’ first NDE occurred at birth when he was born dead in 1944 with the umbilical cord wrapped around the neck of his fetus. His second NDE was in l964 from severe hepatitis, then 1987 with a collapse lung from influenza originally contracted in 1985 with aggravation to previous severe lung damage, and again in 1991 with a second lung collapse followed by a third lung collapse in 2005 and by a severe shingles infection which left him in level 10 pain.

The sixth NDE was in January 2018, in which he received a message about IANDS which he knew nothing about at the time of this NDE. The seventh NDE was in May of 2020 in which he had massive organ failure, pneumonia, blood clots while in the hospital. Rabbi Steve was out of his body in near-death experiences several times. He has since been part of a research project for IANDS on NDEs and prophetic visions conducted by Robert and Susan Mays. Those videos are available on the IANDS website.

**** Special Message from Portland Oregon IANDS ****

Greetings!  My name is Greg Thompson and I am the new group leader for the Portland IANDS chapter.  I want to thank Jane de Forest for her hard work as the previous group leader.  She is a good friend and I wish her well.
I personally have had several near-death experiences and one shared death experience. In addition, I have had guidance to help me on my intended path in this life. I have helped people through rough times with grief, providing comfort and aid to people all around the world with the help of my guides.

I spoke about these experiences at a Portland IANDS meeting last January and have been involved in IANDS for the past three years off and on. I have written a book about my experiences and it is being published soon. It is titled ‘Living with My Spirit Guides’.

I am excited about working with the members and friends of Portland IANDS. Talking and working with people of similar interest in an area that was for a long time ridiculed is a breath of fresh air. Everyone has a different and valuable perspective on the world and deserves to be able to share their experiences and thoughts in a safe environment. I believe IANDS provides that space.

Northern Virginia IANDS Guest Speaker Webinar

NoVA Guest Speaker, PMH Atwater, LLD, presents “The Near-Death Experiences of Tiny Ones Challenge What We Think We Know About Life, Love, God, Reincarnation, Babies, Suicide and Much More!” Sunday, November 22, 11 am PST (2 pm EST).

Guest Speaker: PMH Atwater

The Near-Death Experiences of Tiny Ones Challenge What We Think We Know About Life, Love, God, Reincarnation, Babies, Suicide and Much More!

About Dr. PMH Atwater

Dr. Atwater has written 18 books on Near Death Experience and related topics based on her research on nearly 5,000 adults and children.  She is one of the original researchers in the field of near-death studies.  Some of her findings have been verified in clinical settings, among them the prospective study carried out in Holland and published in “The Lancet” Medical Journal. She herself experienced 3 NDEs over 3 months in 1977, which turned her life around.  Shortly thereafter, she became a researcher because of what she was told to do during her third NDE by what she calls “The Voice Like None Other.”  All these years later, she continues to be guided by The Voice.  She has won many awards and traveled the world – always inviting people to look past appearances for the truth that underlies what we think we know.

PMH is the daughter of a police officer and was raised in a police station.  As a consequence, she uses police investigative techniques as her protocol in her research.  Her father always said: “The body says more than the mouth does.”  As such, she never uses prepared or computerized questions, which puts me at odds with the so-called “scientific protocol.”  She believes her method makes her work more thorough.

In Dr. Atwater’s own words: “I am now working on my 19th book – a challenge to my life, my death, my research.  I’ve never written a more personal book than this before.   As a child, other realms were familiar to me.  As an adult, I went to Idaho’s Attorney General and incorporated INNER FORUM, an organization devoted to the exploration of esoteric, metaphysical topics, and spiritual transformations.  Inner Forum ran for 7 years.  During that time, well over 3,000 people availed themselves of classes, studies, experiments with altered state of consciousness, psychic phenomenon, out-of-body experiences, and so forth.  You name it and I did it.  For a time, I was a medium.  At that time, I was also employed as a bank analyst and technical writer.  I don’t usually talk about my experiences because my research comes first, but I will if it will help others.”  For more information on PMH and her books, visit www.pmhatwater.com.

Dr. Cummings, a physician, neuroscientist, and skeptic reveals the extraordinary near-death experience from drowning that resulted in a measured 8-minutes of full cardiac arrest, changed how he experiences time and convinced him the afterlife is real.
Nov 11, 7 pm CST (5 pm PST. 6 pm MST, 8 pm EST).

Dr. Peter Cummings – Physician, Former Atheist Transformed by NDE
Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm CST (5 PST, 6 MST, 8 EST)
Sponsored by Dallas/Ft Worth Friends of IANDS,
Co-leaders:  Jan Holden, Ed.D. and Peter Quortrup

In 2018, Dr. Peter Cummings was a husband, father and board-certified neuropathologist who spent his days teaching neuroanatomy and neurobiology at a prestigious medical school in  Boston. As an atheist, thoughts of God and spirit rarely crossed his mind.

Then he and his family went on a whitewater rafting trip in Costa Rica, where Peter fell into a Class IV rapid and drowned. But during the eight minutes his Apple Watch showed him to be in cardiac arrest, he had an extraordinary experience of peace, light, and love, watching from above as his wife and son were rescued from the rapids, events that were later verified. Dr. Cummings returned from his near- death experience with an altered experience of time, living in a perpetual present with no sense of past or future and set out to discover the truth about what he had seen and felt. Was it real, or a trick of his dying brain? What he found contradicted everything his training as a brain scientist had taught him and left him convinced that the mind, the afterlife, and yes, even God, are real. His upcoming book Forever Now is the surprising, scientifically rigorous, deeply moving story of his quest for understanding.

Dr. Peter CummingsPeter Cummings, MD is a triple board certified physician specializing in neuropathology and forensic pathology. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in Orono and a masters degree in pathology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin Ireland, graduating medical school with honors. He completed his residency in anatomic pathology and his fellowship in neuropathology at the University of Virginia. He is an award winning educator and best selling author. He has been accepted as a medical expert in the courts of 27 states and 7 different countries.
