Distressing near-death experiences have received increasing public attention in recent years, and Kathy McDaniel’s story offers a rare and illuminating perspective on this often misunderstood aspect of the NDE phenomenon.
In 1999, after being placed on a ventilator for lung failure, Kathy had a near-death experience and immediately found herself in the midst of a dystopian nightmare. When a booming voice asked, “Do you know where you are?”, she answered meekly, “Hell?”—and heard only demonic laughter in reply.
Since then, Kathy has spent many years asking, “Why me? Why was my NDE so hellish?” In this presentation, she will share her extraordinary story, speak about the subject of distressing NDEs, and explore her reflections on that enduring question of “Why?”
At once uplifting, humorous, chilling, and deeply engrossing, this evening offers an opportunity to hear a powerful firsthand account and to consider the deeper meaning that can emerge from even the most difficult spiritually transformative experiences.
About kathy
Kathy McDaniel is the author of Misfit in Hell to Heaven Expat, first published in 2021. She makes her earthly home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where the mountains, bays, flora, and fauna of Puget Sound offer respite, peace, and a glimpse of the heaven she feels she will one day return to.
Kathy’s haunting 1999 near-death experience, and the emotional trauma that followed, began to loosen its hold when she answered a deep inner calling to share her story in book form. With the support of the Seattle IANDS group, she gradually came to accept her mission: to face her NDE and ultimately embrace it as a pre-planned experience she chose.
Today, Kathy shares her story with a growing audience and continues to attend IANDS meetings and annual conferences, connecting with others who look toward their heavenly home with joy. Her gentle message centers on love and kindness in daily life—listening to strangers on airplanes, and looking deeply into the eyes of suffering souls.
