Join us as NY Times bestselling author Bernie Siegel, MD and his grandson, Charlie Siegel join Book Club to revisit their conversations in their co-authored book “When You Realize How Perfect Everything Is: A Conversation About Life Between Grandfather and Grandson.” The book asks readers to open their heart as grandfather and grandson weave a conversation of love across the generations, sharing what it means to see beyond the challenges of life to the beauty in life’s lessons. You do not need to read the book in advance of the event, but when you hear about these conversations, you will eventually want to read them all at your leisure!

Bernie and Charlie remind us that we are all knocked down sometimes by life’s difficulties, but it is the rising back up that counts. That when we dare to experience life to its’ fullest, the imperfections of life are an opportunity for us to grow.

Join grandfather and grandson as they bring you the wisdom of the ages to help men and women of all ages. Listen deeply to the profound insights contained within their poetic words. Be encouraged as their deep faith, inspired writings, and messages of hope share their belief that the imperfections of life are truly what is perfect about it.

About Bernie and Charlie:

Dr. Siegel, who prefers to be called Bernie, not Dr. Siegel, was born in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College. He holds membership in two scholastic honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with honors. His surgical training took place at Yale New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veteran’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He retired from practice as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Yale of general and pediatric surgery in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers.

In 1978 he originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “carefrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual’s life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. He realized exceptional behavior is what we are all capable of.

Bernie, and his wife and coworker Bobbie, live in a suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. They have five children and eight grandchildren. Bernie and Bobbie have co-authored their children, books and articles. Their home with its many children, pets and interests resembled a cross between a family art gallery, museum, zoo and automobile repair shop. It still resembles these things, although the children are trying to improve its appearance in order to avoid embarrassment.

In 1986 his first book, Love. Medicine & Miracles was published. This event redirected his life. In 1989 Peace, Love & Healing and in 1993 How To Live Between Office Visits followed. He is currently working on other books with the goal of humanizing medical education and medical care, as well as, empowering patients and teaching survival behavior to enhance immune system competency. Bernie’s realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to Bernie writing his fourth book in 1998 Prescriptions for Living. It helps people to become aware of the eternal truths and wisdom of the sages through Bernie’s stories and insights rather than wait a personal disaster. He wants to help people fix their lives before they are broken, and thus not have to become strong at the broken places. Published in 2003 are Help Me To Heal to empower patients and their caregivers and 365 Prescriptions For The Soul, in 2004 a children’s book about how difficulties can become blessings, Smudge Bunny, in 2005 101 Exercises For The Soul and out in the Fall of 2006 a prescriptions for parenting book Love, Magic & Mud Pies. Published in 2008 Buddy’s Candle, for children of all ages, related to dealing with the loss of a loved one, be it a pet or parent, and published in 2009 Faith, Hope & Healing with inspiring survivor stories and my reflections about what they teach us. Also out is Words Swords, my poetry and chance to write and react with your own. In the Fall of 2011 A Book of Miracles with amazing stories was published with my comments.

Bernie’s web site where you can learn more is http://www.BernieSiegelMD.com.

Woody Allen once said, “If I had one wish it would be to be somebody else.” Bernie’s wish was to be a few inches taller. His work has been such a growth experience that he is now a few inches taller. His prediction is that in the next decade the role of consciousness, spirituality, non-local healing, body memory and heart energy will all be explored as scientific subjects.

For many, Bernie needs no introduction. He has touched many lives all over our planet. In 1978 he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. As a physician, who has cared for and counseled innumerable people whose mortality has been threatened by an illness, Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our society grapples with today. He continues to assist in the breaking of new ground in the field of healing and personally struggling to live the message of kindness and love.

Bernie has been named one of the top 20 Spiritually Influential Living People on the Planet by the Watkins Review which is published by Watkins Books, an esoteric bookshop in the heart of London, England. Established over 100 years ago, they are now one of the world’s leading independent bookshops specializing in new, second-hand and antiquarian titles in the Mind, Body, Spirit field.

Book Club Presents Matthew McKay, PH.D., “Seeking Jordan”

Matthew McKay never dreamed his son Jordan’s violent death would lead him to transcend all he knew as an esteemed clinical psychologist and professor. Join us as Dr. McKay relates his journey in search of communication with his son across the veil, despite fears and uncertainty, and including past-life and between-lives hypnotic regressions, a technique called induced after-death communication, channeled writing, and more.

Book Club Presents Matthew McKay, PH.D., “Seeking Jordan”
6/28/2022 at 7:00 pm

If you have lost someone you deeply love, or have become strongly aware of your mortality, it’s hard to avoid wondering about life after death, the existence of God, notions of heaven and hell, and why we are here in the first place. The murder of Matthew McKay’s son, Jordan, sent him on a journey in search of ways to communicate with his son despite fears and uncertainty. Here he recounts his efforts — including past-life and between-lives hypnotic regressions, a technique called induced after-death communication, channeled writing, and more.

McKay, a psychologist and researcher, ultimately learned how to reach his son. In this book he provides extraordinary revelations — direct from Jordan — about the soul’s life after death, how karma works, why we incarnate, why there is so much pain in the world, the single force that connects us, and our future as souls. Unlike many books about after-death communication, near-death experiences, and past-life memories, this is a book for those who do not believe yet yearn to know what happens after death. In addition to being riveting reading, Seeking Jordan is a unique heart-, soul-, and mind-stirring reflection on the issues each of us will ultimately face.

About Matthew:

Matthew McKay is a clinical psychologist and a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkley, California. He cofounded Haight Ashbury Psychological Services in San Francisco in 1979 and served as its clinical director for 25 years. Books he has co-authored on professional and self-help psychology have sold more than 3 million copies.

Book Club Presents Author William Peters, “At Heaven’s Door”
5/24/2022 at 7:00 pm

William Peters discusses his research and new book, “At Heaven’s Door” with IANDS Book Club event attendees. A RARE opportunity to speak with a much-in-demand author. Ask your most personal questions as we delve deep into what shared journeys to the afterlife teach about dying well and living better.

Using over twelve hundred accounts of end-of-life experiences, At Heaven Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach About Dying Well and Living Better, offers the first in-depth portrait of shared-death experiences (SDEs). The SDE occurs when somebody dies and loved one or caregiver reports that they shared in the transition and/or experienced the initial stages of the afterlife with the dying. At Heaven’s Door explores how, where, and when these experiences manifest, their most common features, who is more likely to have these experiences, and whether and how we can help prepare people to have SDEs. At Heaven’s Door brings this poorly understood end-of-life phenomenon into full view. By sharing these compelling experiences with the general public, academics, and health care providers At Heaven’s Door introduces new thinking about ‘the best death possible,’ and what we can do to help achieve this goal for ourselves and our loved ones.

About Peter:

William Peters, M.Ed., M.F.T., is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project and Director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative. A licensed M.F.T. therapist, he holds a M.A. in Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies, a M.Ed. in Group Dynamics from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Peters specializes in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution. In addition to his ongoing practice as a psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute, he has designed a series of workshops that introduce audiences to the broad assortment of experientially-based curricula and practices that pertain to the preparation for a conscious, connecting, and loving end-of-life experience and inquiry into the possibility of life after death; some of these workshops also impart a series of protocols intended to initiate shared-death experiences and other shared crossing phenomena.

Peters has worked as a hospice volunteer with the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco, and as a teacher and social worker in Central and South America. His work pertaining to end-of-life is largely informed by a history of mystical experiences, personal experiences with death and dying across cultures, his psychotherapeutic work with grief and bereavement, and his family’s history with cancer.

Having become known as a leader in the field of shared-death studies, Peters presents internationally, nationally, and locally on both the existence and the methods to facilitate remarkable end-of life-experiences. He has given talks to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care, the Association for Death Education and Counseling, the International Association for Near-Death Studies, the Afterlife Research and Education Institute, and the Afterlife and Awareness Conference, among several other groups. His research has been published in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Peters regularly works with local hospice agencies to elevate awareness of the importance and therapeutic potential of acknowledging extraordinary end-of-life experiences. Additionally, he presents at local universities and has served on the Founding Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the International Association for Near-Death Studies.

William Peters has appeared in a variety of media, including Coast to Coast AM and CNN Online. His ongoing work continues to be cited by other leaders in near-death studies such as Dr. Eben Alexander and Dr. Penny Satori. In addition, he is cited by leaders in the conscious dying movement, most recently by Dr. Judy Stephens Long and Dr. Dorea Bardell in their book Living Well, Dying Well.

Joseph B. Geraci, Ph.D. had a near-death experience in his thirties, but it wasn’t until now that he chose to write a book about it. Told in an enduring mix of prose and poetry, Geraci looks back from the lens of his twilight years to paint a picture of how his NDE affected his life. Through marriage, family, and career – including his current role as an adjunct professor of Psychology and Death and Dying at Central Connecticut State University, and a stint as a former decorated police officer – Geraci contemplates life from both human and spiritual perspectives. The Practice In Between: The Art of Letting Go Book Club Guest Author Session

During an out-of-body experience Jim was told how to write his 2nd book…and that the space in-between the words would be as significant as the words alone.

The Practice In Between: The Art of Letting Go Book Club Guest Author Session
February 17th at 7:00 pm EST/ 4 pm PST

Everyone is invited!

With the release of Jim Bruton’s first book, “The In Between, A Trip of a Lifetime”, readers began asking how they could put into practice the wisdom from the In Between. Using the personal integration of his Near-Death Experience in the In Between as a guide, Jim produced many videos and conducted hundreds of interviews that eventually led to the writing of this book. He was told how to write it in an Out of Body Experience, that told him the words would contain the information but the rivers of white that ran between them held the understanding. During this process, Jim realized the In Between did not want to be known as a 12-Step Guide to Surviving Life, but more as a space that invites each person to fill it with the essence of their own lives, the things that are important and meaningful to them. Instead of promoting some Next Big Thing, this book is about letting go, discovering that you have had all along what you need to be a happy, spiritual person. You cannot satisfy desires. You can only feed them. Similarly, answers to questions can take you only so far. To take the quantum leap, you stop answering questions, and you awaken to them.

The Practice In Between: The Art of Letting Go: Bruton, Jim: 9798526713511: Amazon.com: Books

Biography
Jim Bruton (1956-The Present) was born in Key West, FL, grew up in Jacksonville and Charlotte, NC. After 2 years of working and studying in Puerto Rico, he returned to NC to graduate from college and then went to Africa to learn wildlife filming. It was there he saw his first satellite phone and got the idea for transmitting live video over it, a first. Once he did that, we traveled to all 7 continents, the Titanic, the North Pole, Mt. Everest and many war zones in between. He adapted it for use in telemedicine and became a Lecturer at Yale University School of Medicine. Along the way, he picked up an Emmy for his technical work on a National Geographic Television Special, won for Discovery.com the Yahoo! Site of the Year, was awarded the Ahli Mangku Negara from the King of Malaysia (the highest honor a non-Malaysian can receive) and for a time was a Resident Fellow at The Explorers Club in New York. After the faithful reproduction of a WW1 aircraft – a 1917 Fokker triplane- Jim flew it and then sold it to an Air Force pilot. Next up was a 1933 Flying Flea, that Jim crashed on his 2nd test flight. This plane delivered Jim to his next adventure, the journey to end all journeys, his near-death experience. From that unique transformation, Jim continues to explore all aspects of integrating it into his life, prospecting what wisdom he can that continues to bubble forth. The journey has just begun and “The In Between, A Journey of a Lifetime”, is the first installment.

Marcus Aurelius has nothing on Kelvin Chin! Join us for this uplifting Book Club session.
Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 7 pm EST/ 4 pm PST

“Marcus Aurelius Updated: 21st Century Meditations on Living Life” has the same goal as the 2nd century book, “Meditations,” by the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius: to help us think about key areas of our lives in a practical way to increase our enjoyment of life. It is a collection of essays on emotions, life principles, meditation, and the spiritual. Plus, insights into love, forgiveness, the pursuit of happiness, free will, destiny, and the meaning of life.

Biography:

Kelvin Chin has been helping people navigate their lives more easily and smoothly for over 40 years. Throughout his life, he has focused on empowering others, often teaching them techniques and new ways of thinking, helping them to be more self-sufficient and effective. At age 19, Kelvin learned to meditate as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Three years later, Maharishi taught Kelvin how to teach it in an effortless, easy-to-learn way. In his mid-20’s, Kelvin began to remember ancient personal memories from many centuries ago. During his subsequent corporate and legal careers, these memories unfolded more and more. In addition, over the past 40 years, he has had many experiences with the “other side of the veil,” so that now his connection between this physical side and the more non-physical side is normal and natural, not unusual or extraordinary. Kelvin taught meditation throughout the 1970’s, including at West Point Military Academy and in the U.S. Army in Korea and on the DMZ. His students included people of all ages and walks of life, including members of the clergy of every religion, and even Buddhist monks. Kelvin was a test subject in the first medical studies in the U.S. done on meditation in 1971. After graduating from college, graduate and law school, he had a several decade career in business and law. During that time, he continued to help others by teaching them to meditate, and when needed, how to overcome their fear of death. Helping others with death and dying issues, along with his unique approach to the grieving process is something he has offered since his mother’s untimely death in 1982. Now, his teaching of “Turning Within” Meditation, his Overcoming the Fear of Death work, and his Grief Recovery program is his full-time focus. Kelvin was born and raised in Boston, has lived throughout the U.S., as well as 6 countries in Europe and Asia. He currently resides in Los Angeles near his two beautiful, talented children. He teaches worldwide (over 50 countries) both via videoconference and in-person.

Book Club Presents Jacob Cooper, “Life After Breath”

A playground accident led to a childhood NDE that guided the life — through triumphs and troubles — of Jacob Cooper. Often faced with confusion, Jacob meandered through life until he discovered his purpose. A true lightworker, Jacob now helps others in the journey we call life and death.

Death, even for a moment, changes everything. In Life After Breath, Jacob’s near-death experience as a child ripped an opening between him and the spirit world. He lived, but was forever changed. As he grew, darkness
and light led him on a roller coaster ride of turmoil, loss, discovery, and renewal. He now shares this mystical journey with those brave enough to explore the “other side,” understand the beings there, and hear the
wisdom gleaned. He faces the question of the hereafter, looks at life lessons, and examines what a connected awareness can mean to the human experience. Jacob is a licensed social worker, and his expertise coupled with his warm and understanding personality make him a highly anticipated guest!

Book Club Presents David Ditchfield from NDE to Musical and Artistic Savant

Killed by a train, David had remarkable experiences in the afterlife. Those were unparalleled until he discovered the gifts with which he returned — exceptional talent as a composer and artist, with zero training!

Book Club Presents David Ditchfield from NDE to Musical and Artistic Savant
November 21, 2021 at 4:00 pm eastern

The after-effects of David Ditchfield’s NDE are undeniable — the ability to produce high-quality paintings with skill that goes far beyond any previous ability. As if that isn’t enough, add the newly-acquired skill to compose classical symphonies that sell-out orchestral concerts — even though, to this day, he is unable to read or write a single note of musical notation. Even a cynic would have a hard time explaining this! But this is exactly what happened to David. Read the details of this mysterious account, then hear straight from the horse’s mouth (er, uh, the conductor and artist’s mouth!), just what his NDE was like, and how life is with such incredible talent.
