About Bernie and Charlie:

Dr. Siegel, who prefers to be called Bernie, not Dr. Siegel, was born in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College. He holds membership in two scholastic honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with honors. His surgical training took place at Yale New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veteran’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He retired from practice as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Yale of general and pediatric surgery in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers.

In 1978 he originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “carefrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual’s life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. He realized exceptional behavior is what we are all capable of.

Bernie, and his wife and coworker Bobbie, live in a suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. They have five children and eight grandchildren. Bernie and Bobbie have co-authored their children, books and articles. Their home with its many children, pets and interests resembled a cross between a family art gallery, museum, zoo and automobile repair shop. It still resembles these things, although the children are trying to improve its appearance in order to avoid embarrassment.

In 1986 his first book, Love. Medicine & Miracles was published. This event redirected his life. In 1989 Peace, Love & Healing and in 1993 How To Live Between Office Visits followed. He is currently working on other books with the goal of humanizing medical education and medical care, as well as, empowering patients and teaching survival behavior to enhance immune system competency. Bernie’s realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to Bernie writing his fourth book in 1998 Prescriptions for Living. It helps people to become aware of the eternal truths and wisdom of the sages through Bernie’s stories and insights rather than wait a personal disaster. He wants to help people fix their lives before they are broken, and thus not have to become strong at the broken places. Published in 2003 are Help Me To Heal to empower patients and their caregivers and 365 Prescriptions For The Soul, in 2004 a children’s book about how difficulties can become blessings, Smudge Bunny, in 2005 101 Exercises For The Soul and out in the Fall of 2006 a prescriptions for parenting book Love, Magic & Mud Pies. Published in 2008 Buddy’s Candle, for children of all ages, related to dealing with the loss of a loved one, be it a pet or parent, and published in 2009 Faith, Hope & Healing with inspiring survivor stories and my reflections about what they teach us. Also out is Words Swords, my poetry and chance to write and react with your own. In the Fall of 2011 A Book of Miracles with amazing stories was published with my comments.

Woody Allen once said, “If I had one wish it would be to be somebody else.” Bernie’s wish was to be a few inches taller. His work has been such a growth experience that he is now a few inches taller. His prediction is that in the next decade the role of consciousness, spirituality, non-local healing, body memory and heart energy will all be explored as scientific subjects.

For many, Bernie needs no introduction. He has touched many lives all over our planet. In 1978 he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. As a physician, who has cared for and counseled innumerable people whose mortality has been threatened by an illness, Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our society grapples with today. He continues to assist in the breaking of new ground in the field of healing and personally struggling to live the message of kindness and love.

Bernie has been named one of the top 20 Spiritually Influential Living People on the Planet by the Watkins Review which is published by Watkins Books, an esoteric bookshop in the heart of London, England. Established over 100 years ago, they are now one of the world’s leading independent bookshops specializing in new, second-hand and antiquarian titles in the Mind, Body, Spirit field.

“Seeking Jordan: How I Learned the Truth about Death and the Invisible Universe”

6/28/2022 at 7:00 – 9:00 pm

If you have lost someone you deeply love or have become strongly aware of your mortality, it’s hard to avoid wondering about life after death, the existence of God, notions of heaven and hell, and why we are here in the first place. The murder of Matthew McKay’s son, Jordan, sent him on a journey in search of ways to communicate with his son despite fears and uncertainty. Here he recounts his efforts — including past-life and between-lives hypnotic regressions, a technique called induced after-death communication, channeled writing, and more.

McKay, a psychologist and researcher, ultimately learned how to reach his son. In this book, he provides extraordinary revelations — direct from Jordan — about the soul’s life after death, how karma works, why we incarnate, why there is so much pain in the world, the single force that connects us, and our future as souls. Unlike many books about after-death communication, near-death experiences, and past-life memories, this is a book for those who do not believe yet yearn to know what happens after death. In addition to being riveting reading, Seeking Jordan is a unique heart-, soul-, and mind-stirring reflection on the issues each of us will ultimately face.

About Matthew:

Matthew McKay is a clinical psychologist and a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkley, California. He cofounded Haight Ashbury Psychological Services in San Francisco in 1979 and served as its clinical director for 25 years. Books he has co-authored on professional and self-help psychology have sold more than 3 million copies.

William Peters discusses his research and new book, “At Heaven’s Door” with IANDS Book Club event attendees. A RARE opportunity to speak with a much-in-demand author. Ask your most personal questions as we delve deep into what shared journeys to the afterlife teach about dying well and living better.

Using over twelve hundred accounts of end-of-life experiences, At Heaven Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach About Dying Well and Living Better, offers the first in-depth portrait of shared-death experiences (SDEs). The SDE occurs when somebody dies and loved one or caregiver reports that they shared in the transition and/or experienced the initial stages of the afterlife with the dying. At Heaven’s Door explores how, where, and when these experiences manifest, their most common features, who is more likely to have these experiences, and whether and how we can help prepare people to have SDEs. At Heaven’s Door brings this poorly understood end-of-life phenomenon into full view. By sharing these compelling experiences with the general public, academics, and health care providers At Heaven’s Door introduces new thinking about ‘the best death possible,’ and what we can do to help achieve this goal for ourselves and our loved ones.

About Peter:

William Peters, M.Ed., M.F.T., is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project and Director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative. A licensed M.F.T. therapist, he holds a M.A. in Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies, a M.Ed. in Group Dynamics from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Peters specializes in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution. In addition to his ongoing practice as a psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute, he has designed a series of workshops that introduce audiences to the broad assortment of experientially-based curricula and practices that pertain to the preparation for a conscious, connecting, and loving end-of-life experience and inquiry into the possibility of life after death; some of these workshops also impart a series of protocols intended to initiate shared-death experiences and other shared crossing phenomena.

Peters has worked as a hospice volunteer with the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco, and as a teacher and social worker in Central and South America. His work pertaining to end-of-life is largely informed by a history of mystical experiences, personal experiences with death and dying across cultures, his psychotherapeutic work with grief and bereavement, and his family’s history with cancer.

Having become known as a leader in the field of shared-death studies, Peters presents internationally, nationally, and locally on both the existence and the methods to facilitate remarkable end-of life-experiences. He has given talks to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care, the Association for Death Education and Counseling, the International Association for Near-Death Studies, the Afterlife Research and Education Institute, and the Afterlife and Awareness Conference, among several other groups. His research has been published in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Peters regularly works with local hospice agencies to elevate awareness of the importance and therapeutic potential of acknowledging extraordinary end-of-life experiences. Additionally, he presents at local universities and has served on the Founding Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the International Association for Near-Death Studies.

William Peters has appeared in a variety of media, including Coast to Coast AM and CNN Online. His ongoing work continues to be cited by other leaders in near-death studies such as Dr. Eben Alexander and Dr. Penny Satori.
